Reflections of Jesus’ Death on the Cross

In observance of the Lenten season, let us reflect the significance of Christ’s death on the cross. Although Jesus did many signs and wonders as acknowledge by Nicodemus in the Gospel of
John 3:2, " Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him." Jesus performed many works, but the work which He accomplished was to die for the sins of the world (Matthew 1:21, John 1:29).

The death of Jesus Christ on the cross is the outstanding event and the central doctrine of the New Testament. As Paul wrote the Epistle in
1 Corinthians 15:3 - " I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the scriptures said." The atoning death is to cover the sin from God's sight so that it loses power to provoke God's wrath is the unique feature of the Christian belief. Jesus that His death was necessary to provide forgiveness, for  "without  shedding of the blood there is no remissions of sins (Hebrews 9:22).

Christ’s death was an atoning death because it was for the removing of sin
(Hebrew (9:26).It was a sacrificial death in relation to sin. What was that relation? It is "who in His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree" (1 Peter 2:24); "for He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21). On the cross Jesus paid the penalty of sins, “for the wages of sin is death”, but He did it willingly out of love for you and me. Although His terrible death was totally undeserved, but there was no other way He could save us.To quote a passage from the
Our Daily Bread Devotional, "There is no other way to cleanse me from sin, and no other way my redemption to win. Christ Jesus must take my guilt upon Him and die upon Calvary. " Christiansen.
