"Enjoying summer"

The month of August is a time for fun and relaxation. All of us enjoy being able to get out and have some fun. We are especially challenged to keep everything Biblical in perspective. People are in and out of the church for vacations, getaways, reunions and family time that take them away from worship services.

Although it is summer, let us try to keep the right perspective. Spending your time on theme parks and other make believe settings does not really glorify God. Summer is the best time to enjoy God's creation. As the book of Romans 1:20 says, "From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and the sky and all that God made. They can clearly see His invisible qualities, His power and divine nature so that they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. And in Psalm 19:1, it says, "The heavens declare the glory of God the skies display His marvelous craftsmanship."

The physical world declares God's glory and creative power, as seen in Niagara Falls and Grand Canyon, by looking at the entire created cosmos - from immense expanse of the created universe to the beauty and order of nature - we cannot help but stand in awe of the majesty of the Lord God, our creator. The Full Life Study Bible commentary puts them into these words: God created the heavens and the earth in order to receive back the glory and honor due Him. All the elements of nature, e.g. sun, moon, trees of the forest, rain and snow, rivers and streams, hills and mountains, animals and birds, shout out their praises unto the God who made them all. How much more God desires and expects to receive glory and praise from human beings?

Let us, therefore, enjoy summer and glorify God for His creations.
