We are living in a changing and increasingly dangerous time.

Paul in his letter to Timothy said that in the last days it is going to be very difficult to be a Christian. People will love only themselves and their money (1 Timothy 6:10) (2 Timothy 3:2); they will be proud and boastful, sneering at God; disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them and thoroughly bad. They will be hard-headed and never give in to others; they will be constant liars and troublemakers, will think nothing of immorality. They will be rough and cruel and sneer at those who try to be good. They will betray their friends, they will be hot-headed, puffed-up with pride, and prefer good times than worshipping God. They will go to church, yes, but they won’t really believe anything they hear. Don’t be taken by people like them.

We are living in a period of social change, culture change, technology change, scientific change and religious change. For us Christians, how can we be relevant in such as now?

To be relevant, we must be flexible in communicating an unchanging message to a changing culture. Methods may change but still the same message. Jesus asked, “Will there be any faith at all when I come back?” In the last few years we have seen upheavals in every area of life, and we are seeing it all over the world. Is there anything that we can hold on to? Is there anything that gives us meaning in our lives?

In the midst of these changes, certain things never change, and that is God. He is the same yesterday, today and forever  (Hebrews 13:8); “I am the Lord, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). There is no variableness neither shadows of turning with God. He loves us as we are. He will give us a supernatural power to love people whom we usually don’t even like, but now we can love them (1 Corinthians 13).

When we invite Christ to come into our life, we are certain that He will carry us through the turbulent waters and changing times. He promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
