"Spiritual Activity Can Never Replace Spiritual Intimacy"

As we prepare different activities for the summer months, let us be reminded that the sole purpose is to build up relationships with one another in love as Christ loves the Church. A lot of us go through activities with the wrong focus. We want to know what activities that will entertain us in the name of fellowship but not develop intimacy with the Lord. Activities such as church picnics, family outings and family camps this summertime are intended to give us a break from our busy schedules and focus on the things of God.

Paul said, in 1 Corinthians 2:14, that the "natural man" cannot grasp anything from God because his spirit is dead." He says the things of God are "foolishness" to such a person. So a believer who seeks only spiritual activity is carnal. In contrast, a mature believer will always seek the presence of God even during spiritual activities. In 1 Corinthians 2:15, Paul said, "he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one."

The truth is even church-goers do not understand the mature believer. They cannot figure out the thoughts of mature believers who have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).
This kind of intimacy is rare today, even though the mind of Christ is God's will for, and is available to, each one of us. Spiritually mature believers have a passion to pursue and know God, and they aren't satisfied until they are in an intimate relationship with Him. So, in the midst of all the summertime events, make it your goal to know God better.
