Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” In such a time as now, when people are desperate for answers, its time to share the good news.

The heart of God yearns for the harvest, a gathering of men, women and children. He is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). He longs to save all men through faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He gave His Son to be the Savior of all. He sent the Holy Spirit to convict individuals of their sins and to convert them through His saving grace. The earnest desire of His heart is to rescue the lost from the bondage of sin and Satan.

In the midst of the decay, deceitfulness of the world, God is at work through faithful men and women in completing the harvest which began in the day of Pentecost. He is patiently waiting for the grain to ripen, which signifies the crop is ready to be gathered. As people of God, we are not to be “seated, satisfied and silent of the gospel” but to catch sight of what God is doing in these days prior to the coming of Jesus Christ. James 5:7 says, “Be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen” (NLT).

Jesus gave a perfect illustration of the heart of God for the harvest. He expressed the burden of His Father for lost souls. When Jesus led the woman of Sychar from empty pots of immorality to the well of living water, the disciples were not there. The disciples had gone to town to buy food. When they invited Him to eat with them, He refused to partake saying, “I have meat (food) to eat which you do not know” (John 4:32). The disciples were amazed for they thought someone had given Him food in their absence. But Jesus said to them, “my food is to do the will of Him, who sent Him and to finish His work” (John 4:34).

Jesus revealed the will of the Father very clearly to us in John 4:35, “You know the saying, four months between planting and harvest. But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. The harvesters are paid good wages and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvesters alike” (John 4:36, NLT).

The will of the Father then is harvest of lost souls and now is the time.
